During the summer months, everyone just has fun and wants some relief before a busy school year. SGO hosted the first school event, the Kickoff Barbeque on Friday, September 6, near the amphitheater and Patio C. The event featured plenty of food, games, and music.
This event had the option of being paid for online via QR code, at freshman orientation, or during the first few days of the year in the Commons. Mrs. Pineiro, co-adviser of SGO, stated "Tailgates have been here for some the past years We just wanted to give another option for paying to make it easier."
Chartwells staff served hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and veggie burgers for main courses, with pasta salad and potato salad served on the side. Cookies and brownies were there for the taking in addition to ice cream served by a Mr. Softies food truck. For games, there was badminton, Jenga, bean bag toss, and tug of war. Music of different genres was played.
The barbecue took a lot of planning. SGO Executive Board member Hayden McCarthy (12) stated, "There was a need for this because we felt students should have some tension worn off. It is a great event for friends and new people alike to socialize."
SGO has a lot of events planned for this year. This event was just the beginning of the cherry on top.
