Celebrating ELL Students' English Achievements: High Tea

WILEYNI CABA, Contributing Writer

In the course of the school year, ELL students have been working extremely hard to learn English to the best of their abilities.Through their hard work they have demonstrated how well they are doing in speaking English to others. A celebration-like event was held for them in on Friday, April 19. This event allowed them to practice language skills; it was called High Tea.

Students from the Mass and Social Media 2 class and Tomorrow's Teachers attended this event, as well as other teachers and administrators throughout the day. It gave an opportunity for students in the class to put their English to practice. There were students from many different places, like Columbia, Guatemala, Honduras, India, and Egypt. Each student spoke about their troubles in terms of speaking the language, but overall seemed to enjoy the event and was found it extremely helpful speaking to English-speaking students, teachers, and administrators.

Brely Guzman, a 17 year old Senior who is part of this class, spoke to various students. It was demonstrated how well she was able to understand what was being asked and she was able to reply. Guzman said "I really like how they did this for us, and it is very nice for us to put our English to practice knowing how hard we have worked for it."

High Tea was something that many of students enjoyed, like Guzman, not only because they were able to connect with the visitors speaking to each other, but also because it made them realize how well they are doing with their ability to speak the English language.
