Music Review: The Complexities of Our Lives

FERNANDO ALVAREZ, Staff Writer

Throughout our lives, whether currently, when we're younger, or when we're older and have gone through society for a while, we always question the feelings we have, the pressures put upon us, and how to work through society and our own emotions. Despite how much we all differ, we always debate who we are and where we should go next, whether by ourselves or with others who are similar to us. These songs by Flavor Foley, whether many or few can relate to the feelings put into it, tackle the complexities of what makes us human.

"Human ft. SF-A2 Miki" by Flavor Foley is a song about the identities forced upon us and finding who we truly are, making us human after all. Using the VOCALOID package SF-A2 Miki, an instrument (also known as a synth) that allows for a song to have vocals similar but noticeably different to human singing, this song mixes pop and rock to make something that touches the hearts of those who wish to find who they truly are. With some of the lyrics referencing the actions that the main character in this song is programmed to do, and questioning whether that is "...human after all", to then deciding to go against what they're told to be and becoming who they want to be. In my opinion, this song is top-tier in my listing, and even if you're not a fan of VOCALOID, give it a shot to impress you. I give you my guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

"Water The Roses ft. Gumi" by Flavor Foley is a breakup song, perfect for being able to handle and eventually grow past what was thought to be forever, sung using a VOCALOID package named Gumi. The song centralizes over a pre-existing relationship, that demonstrates the two people slowly getting more and more distant from one another until eventually they break up, even though they're searching for a love like before. The lyrics talking about how one of the people in the relationship see their inevitable breakup, alongside the mix of melancholy and cheery music signifying how the break up feels for them, the song truly resembles those feelings of trying to get over a relationship that both of you agreed would not work out in the end. For those dealing with a long-distance relationship, or those who just broke up, this song helps you realize that you will feel as if you're wilting, but you will grow in the end, and bloom for someone else. It's only a matter of time.

"Weathergirl ft. Eleanor Forte" by Flavor Foley is a song sung by a SynthV (same thing as VOCALOID) named Eleanor Forte, all about unrequited yet persistent love. The lyrics revolve around using fluctuating weather patterns to represent the main character's fluctuating emotions, such as sadness being rain, and hopeful, sunny days being seen as happiness, all for someone who is just out of reach. The type of music played with the singer can change from peaceful and calm to energetic and powerful, mixing and intertwining with what the lyrics need at that very moment. And as high-schoolers, unrequited love is a constant within our social circles, and this song captures that feeling perfectly, and the hope that eventually, someday, the clouds will open up. Personally? If you're a fan of passionate, conflicting music patterns, this song should tickle your fancy.

Those are just three of the songs that Flavor Foley has done, and that I find personally as the best of the best. They are well-tuned towards the emotions that we experience daily, weekly, or even for months, and the music behind the vocals are perfect for each situation that the song drops you into. Whether you want to try out a new song or two from this artist, or you want songs to help you get through the emotions that make us human, picking up the songs that this creator makes may just give you that push to understanding what you need to go through the trickiness of life again. And as always, stay safe, and take care.
