Recently, hundreds of Guatemalan soldiers have arrived in Haiti to help with the increasing gang violence. This violence has made it dangerous for people to travel to Haiti. For years, Haiti has been considered too unsafe to visit or live in because of the constant rise in gang violence. But for years, no one has tried to help Haiti. Now, unexpectedly, Guatemala has decided to step in. However, Guatemala may have other reasons for helping- they could be trying to gain control of Haiti.

Haiti is known to have gold and other valuable resources that many countries could benefit from. Guatemala seems to be taking advantage of Haiti’s need for help. For years, Haiti has struggled with rising crime. Hundreds of people have been killed in gang violence, from shootings to hospitals being destroyed.
The gangs even killed the president, causing the government to fall apart. According to the article "Guatemala, Salvadoran troops, El Salvador, arrive in Haiti to help fight gangs," Guatemalan soldiers are on a mission supported by the United Nations. Since 2018, gang violence in Haiti has grown worse every day. Many women and children have been killed, and many Haitians have fled their homes. After looking into it further, there is very little information about the United Nations mission, which raises questions.
For years, no other country has tried to help Haiti, and the people have had to manage on their own. Guatemala's sudden decision to help Haiti seems suspicious and not completely genuine. It seems like Guatemala might have a hidden reason for stepping in at such a critical time. After Guatemala helps stop the gang violence, Haiti could end up under Guatemala’s control and lose its freedom again.
The desire for power and control that many countries have is impacting Haiti. If this continues, Haiti may no longer be free and will always be under the control of others driven by greed.
