Senior Speech: Saanvi Lamba

Good afternoon administrators, teachers, families, friends, and the Class of 2026. 

What if some of the best moments of our lives begin with a decision that scares us? Graduation is when life stops asking if you’re ready and starts asking if you’re brave.

When I look around, I don’t just see caps and gowns, I see everything that brought us here. The rushed mornings before first period, the crowded hallways, the Spirit Weeks that made the school louder than usual, and the stressful nights where one assignment felt like the end of the world.

After counting down 180 school days, it’s strange realizing how quickly all of it went by. One of the hardest parts about growing up is feeling like we are already supposed to have everything figured out.

At NBTHS, that pressure was hard to ignore. It showed up in conversations about grades, majors, and future plans. After a while, many people learned how to look confident before they learned how to actually feel confident.

Even during pep rallies and Spirit Week, when the school felt full of excitement, you could still sense that a lot of people were worried about falling behind or not being enough. Most confident people doubt themselves more than we realize. They feel uncertain, and regardless, they still move forward.

I used to think courage looked like superhero movies, but spending time with the people in this class made me realize courage does not always look so dramatic.

Sometimes courage is applying for something while feeling you are not qualified enough. Other times it’s walking into a new environment feeling out of place but staying anyway.

Some of the biggest moments in people’s lives begin with uncertainty. Fear can sound convincing. It tells us to wait until we feel smarter, more prepared, or more sure of ourselves. But if we spend our lives waiting to feel ready, we risk missing the experiences that actually help us grow.

Our class has been doing this all along, without even realizing it. Life moves too quickly for us to keep waiting until we feel ready for all that lies ahead of us.  

Class of 2026, we don’t have all the answers to what's coming next. Fear will always exist in some form. But I hope we continue taking chances on ourselves and moving forward anyway.
