Good morning families, students, staff, administration, and fellow graduates.

Today, we are sitting here preparing to begin a completely new chapter of our lives. And for many of us, including myself, that is honestly a little scary.

Graduation comes with something we have not fully experienced before: the responsibility to make our own decisions. For the first time in a long time, there is no perfectly clear path in front of us. There is no answer key telling us whether the choices we make are right or wrong.

Fear is going to be a major part of life moving forward. The question is not whether fear will exist. The question is how much power we allow it to have over us.

We can spend years questioning our decisions, worrying about the future, and wondering whether we are falling behind. But life does not happen in the future. It happens right now, in the present moment.

Sometimes we convince ourselves that our decisions are “practical,” when deep down we are simply afraid to take a risk. What we truly want can feel impossible, unrealistic, or completely out of reach, so we never allow ourselves to ask for it.

But high school was difficult too. At one point or another, almost all of us probably felt overwhelmed. We doubted ourselves. We questioned whether we could actually make it to this day.

Yet here we are, sitting in our caps and gowns, waiting for our names to be called.

As Michael Jordan once said, “Limits, like fear, are often just an illusion.”

Fear feels real. Doubt feels real. Feeling behind feels real. But that does not mean those feelings are permanent. The people who succeed are not the people who never experience fear. They are the people who stop allowing fear to control their lives.

And eventually, many of us realize something even more important: life is not really about trophies, achievements, or titles. It is about the people we love and the relationships that shape us.

Love is what pushes us forward during the hardest moments of our lives. It gives meaning to everything we chase and reminds us why any of this matters in the first place.

So as we move forward after today, chase the dream that scares you. Take risks. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Get back up when things do not go your way.

And remember: for the first time in a long time, your story is completely up to you.
