This quote shows a lot of wisdom, because it means that you have to be mindful of what you choose to do about different situations in life. It is not the circumstance, but the reaction or response to the circumstance that matters. Epictetus was a Greek stoic philosopher who lived from 50 AD to 135 AD, who is best known for The Enchiridion and his Discourses. He believed that human beings are oriented toward following theory over practice.
