Good morning, fellow graduates, faculty, and beloved guests. It is a great honor to be a part of this celebration by being selected to give this speech today. Thank you to each loved one who could be here to celebrate this achievement with me. I would like to recognize that our Class of 2024 marks the 50th Anniversary of North Brunswick Township High School, a tribute to how strong our school community is with one another. It has allowed us to grow personally, academically, and with success. We are gathered one last time as the Class of 2024, many of whom we watched grow up since kindergarten. We prepare to enter the world of adulthood with eagerness for what lies ahead. Let us embrace the bittersweet moment of this final chapter. As I stand before you, I cannot help but dwell on what a journey it has been.
As the first generation in my family to attend college, the expectation of excelling in academics was very important. Throughout these last four years, it was honestly a challenge, many times convincing myself that I would not see this day, even questioning my next steps in life and that my childhood would be a memory. Taking that into consideration, Ms. Latchaw, my school counselor, has been my biggest support system since freshman year. She has helped me at my lowest point in life, given me tough love, and answered the millions of questions I have had. I hope she realizes how grateful I truly am to simply have her presence near.
Whether it's a school counselor, teacher, or even a friend, our bond as a community shows how comfortable we can feel to talk to someone when needed and to understand you don’t have to face hardships alone. Now, as young adults, we can say we are resilient as we faced the COVID-19 pandemic, dreadful months of online schooling, learning to resocialize with people, and understanding the reality of how social media impacts our everyday lives. We all still managed to get through that tough time, so I am certain we can learn how to adapt to the real world. I hope that each individual here understands their worth and capabilities to do anything they set their mind to.
As we forge new paths, let us acknowledge the future with an open-mind; we are the next generation to make a change in society. Success is not merely within our academics, but what we choose to advocate. Whether it be pursuing a passion, social change, or simply kindness, I know you will make each of your loved ones proud. You have the capability and strength to accomplish great things. Even though we will go our separate ways, I hope the lessons and memories of NBTHS stay by your side. Dr. Seuss once said, “Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” Therefore, let today be a reflection of us starting our new chapters as our stories are waiting to be told! Congratulations to the graduating class of 2024!
